I always use several hosts for my servers, since I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket. I also is a backup freak, so why have only one server when you can have many? 😉
Here is a list of my current host per 19.07.2016
I’m back where I started out in 1999, on a dedicated server. I have been using VPS servers the last 10 years+ now, and the last 14 month on different cloud providers like IwStack, Digital Ocean and Vultr.com. But now I got some rally good offers on my own dedicated servers @Hetzner in Germany. I pay €26/mo for a Core i7 3770 (4c/8t) with 32 GB of RAM, 2 x 3 TB hard drives, 20 TB BW @ 1 gbit port, then 10mbit the rest of the month if you use all 20 TB. I also got the same server, but with 16 GB RAM for just €23/mo.
Using only 4 cores on a CentOS 6.6 64bit VM (created in Hyper-V), I get a benchmark result of 5463 points. And thats on normal disk without RAID.
Yes I know, running without (HW) RAID is not the best thing. Using 1-2 year old servers is not the best thing. But still, I have all my fail over setup with two backup servers (one at Hetzner one at Vultr), I takes daily backups, both from Virtualmin and of the complete server, exported to backup servers. Will give it a try, see the next months how it’s go.
Need a 10gbit connection in Europe? Hosthatch has it. They also have servers in Sweden, Netherlands and USA. Check them out, and if possible, use my aff. link: https://portal.hosthatch.com/aff.php?aff=204
I have also used KnownHost for the past 2.5 years as a backup server. They also are a fully managed service, and their pretty good. Almost no downtime, and not any issue at all past year or so.
See my last review of them here…
